Why buy titanium bullion in NZ?

It's worth being clear about what titanium is. It isn't a precious metal and it isn't traded on a spot market, so people buy titanium because they like it: a modern, distinctive piece to own, collect or give. Its cool grey colour and light weight make it feel quite different in the hand from gold or silver.

Titanium bars, coins or rounds?

Titanium bullion is mostly made as bars and rounds by private mints. Legal tender titanium coins are uncommon.

Bars are the simplest format: a solid piece stamped with its weight and purity, often with a design on the face. Because titanium is so light, a one-ounce bar takes up more than twice the space of an ounce of silver.

Rounds are coin-shaped, usually one ounce, and aren't legal tender.

Titanium pricing, spot price and GST in NZ

Titanium has no spot price the way gold and silver do, so there's no premium over spot to compare. Each piece is priced as a finished product, covering the metal, manufacturing, freight and our margin. Our live spot-linked pricing applies to gold, silver and platinum.

Titanium isn't exempt from GST in New Zealand, so GST applies and is included in our prices.

Titanium bullion FAQs

Is titanium bullion GST-free in NZ?

No. Titanium isn't one of the metals New Zealand exempts from GST, so GST applies, and it's included in the price you see.

Does titanium have a spot price?

No. Unlike gold, silver and platinum, titanium isn't traded on a public spot market, so titanium bullion is sold at a set price per piece rather than a live, market-linked price.

Does titanium bullion tarnish?

Not in normal storage. Titanium forms a thin, protective oxide layer on its surface, which is why it resists corrosion so well and doesn't tarnish the way silver and copper can. Keeping bars in their packaging still protects the finish from scratches.

Can I sell titanium bullion back to Pure Bullion?

Titanium has no established resale market, and our buy-back service, opening soon, focuses on gold and silver. Buy titanium to keep, collect or give rather than to sell on.
