Gold bars, coins or rounds?

Bars usually carry the lowest premium over spot. They're made in sizes from under a gram to a kilogram, and the bigger the bar, the less you pay per gram.

Coins are struck by government mints and carry a face value. Their designs are widely recognised, and they typically cost a little more per gram than a bar of the same weight.

Rounds look like coins but come from private mints and aren't legal tender. They're far more common in silver than in gold.

Gold premiums, spot price and GST in NZ

Spot is the live wholesale price of gold. The premium on top covers refining, minting, freight, insurance and our margin. Our live spot-linked pricing moves with the market, and your price is locked for five minutes at checkout while you pay. See today's gold price in NZD.

Gold that is at least 99.5% pure is exempt from GST in New Zealand, which covers investment-grade bars and coins.

Buy gold NZ: FAQs

How do I buy gold in NZ?

Choose a bar or coin above, check out online at the live spot-linked price, and pick insured delivery anywhere in New Zealand. Our guide to buying gold in New Zealand covers each step.

Is gold bullion GST-free in NZ?

Yes, if it's at least 99.5% pure. Investment-grade gold bars and coins at that purity are exempt from GST in New Zealand. Gold below 99.5%, such as 22 carat coins, attracts GST like other goods.

Is one large gold bar cheaper than several small ones?

Per gram, usually yes, because larger bars carry a lower premium. Smaller bars and coins cost more per gram, but they're easier on a budget and let you sell part of your holding later.

Do you deliver gold bullion to Christchurch?

Yes. Order online and we ship fully insured and tracked, anywhere in New Zealand.

Can I sell my gold back to Pure Bullion?

Our buy-back service opens soon, with market-linked quotes on gold whether you bought it from us or elsewhere. You can register your interest now.
